Why a Tummy Time Class?

Imagine putting your baby down on the floor on her tummy and having her be happy. Gently cooing, sucking on her hand, occasionally looking around, interacting with you…content and learning about herself and the world around her. As she gains skills, she discovers how to hold her chest off the ground, accidentally rolls and then repeats it over and over again with giggles. She may even find a true plank position and hold it longer than you can! And, all with a smile!

Unfortunately, this isn’t usually the picture. Most of the time you are doing this because your pediatrician says you need to do it, even if your baby hates it. And, honestly, what parent is going to sit back and feel good about tummy time when baby is screaming?!? Searching the web and asking friends about tummy time troubles might give you some answers, but rarely does it satisfy you completely.

Happy tummy time is within reach. This one-time class will give you the strategies you need to know to help get you there. It might also make you hungry for more cool information about how to play with your baby and what to expect at all the different stages and ages, but that is for another day. Join Wendi McKenna on a journey toward happier tummy time!

Who: Expectant parents and families with babies newborn to 7 months (registration includes baby and up to 2 caregivers)

What: Parent Education including discussion, demonstrations, and hands-on/individualized guidance based on your baby’s unique needs. Topics include:

• Happy and developmentally appropriate tummy time,
• Safe sleep and play environments,
• Prevention of flat head syndrome,
• Effect of  “container culture” on baby’s development, and
• What baby gear you really (DO NOT) need!
