SUMMARY:Sweet Sleep (pregnant to 5 months)
DESCRIPTION:Sweet Sleep: Sleep Shaping for Infants\nSince 2010\, San Diego sleep training expert Jen Varela has helped more than 300 sleep-deprived families have sweet sleep. She focuses on the achievement of each family’s sleep goals whether in co-sleeping environments\, room sharing or separate rooms. Jen’s experience ranges from helping families with infants in sleep shaping skills to families with toddlers and/or kindergartners who are transitioning them to their own room for the first time. \nCome learn from Jen about Sleep Shaping your newborn’s sleep habits so you and your baby can get better sleep. Learn what the realistic expectations are around sleep and what your baby is capable of. Find out how to meet your baby’s sleep needs. Discover sleep “shaping” strategies so you never have to sleep train your baby. \nHere’s what other parents say about Jen’s workshops: \n“I am a birth and postpartum doula and a recent new mommy. I’ve had clients work with Jen in previous years and they have had great success with her. My son is 4 months old and fairly good sleeper\, but not a great napper. I recently went to Jen’s sleep shaping workshop for babies up to 5 months old and I’m so happy I went! We co-sleep for half of the night\, which I was worried we’d have to stop doing completely\, but Jen was very supportive of how we choose to sleep with our baby and gave great tips for how to move forward. What I also appreciated was the fact that she provided a lot of science behind babies sleep habits. While I know things won’t change overnight I now feel like I have solid steps I can take to improve my sons sleep. Thanks Jen!” \n\nKiersten – Mother of 4-Month Old Son \n  \n$75 per person\, $90 per couple. \n\n

SUMMARY:Free Teen Heart Screenings - Prevent Sudden Cardiac Death
DESCRIPTION:Eric Paredes was a healthy Steele Canyon High School sophomore athlete who died suddenly and unexpectedly from Sudden Cardiac Arrest/Death (SCA/D) in 2009. His parents\, Hector and Rhina Paredes\, established EP Save A Life Foundation to honor him through their commitment to prevent this tragedy from happening to other families. The EP Save A Life Foundation is committed to preventing SCA in young people through awareness\, education and action. \nEPSALF offers free cardiac screenings to any teen\, ages 12–25. They’ve screened thousands and have identified hundreds with undetected heart abnormalities. \n\nAll screening events are open to the public—your youth does not have to attend the school to get screened.\nScreenings happen from 9 am to 3 pm\, but screenings typically take less than an hour to complete.\nIf youth bring a fully signed/completed screening packet\, parents do not need to be present at the event.\nScreenings include a health history review\, an EKG\, consultation with a cardiologist\, and if indicated\, a limited echocardiogram.\nThe entire process is painless and non-invasive—no needles or x-ray exposure.\nFemale technicians screen girls in a separate area from boys. There are also private screening areas as needed.\nYou are notified of the results within a few weeks for follow-up with your own family doctor as your insurance dictates.\nIf results are normal\, please add the EKG to your youth’s medical chart to use as a baseline.\nIf results are abnormal\, please contact your doctor’s office and let us know if you’d like us to reach out to your doctor for consult.\nIf you do not have access to medical care\, please check our Find A Doctor page\, or contact us for assistance.\n\nPlease see the website below to register for this complimentary event. \n  \n  \n
