SUMMARY:Happy Tummy Timers
DESCRIPTION:Why a Tummy Time Class?\nImagine putting your baby down on the floor on her tummy and having her be happy. Gently cooing\, sucking on her hand\, occasionally looking around\, interacting with you…content and learning about herself and the world around her. As she gains skills\, she discovers how to hold her chest off the ground\, accidentally rolls and then repeats it over and over again with giggles. She may even find a true plank position and hold it longer than you can! And\, all with a smile! \nUnfortunately\, this isn’t usually the picture. Most of the time you are doing this because your pediatrician says you need to do it\, even if your baby hates it. And\, honestly\, what parent is going to sit back and feel good about tummy time when baby is screaming?!? Searching the web and asking friends about tummy time troubles might give you some answers\, but rarely does it satisfy you completely. \nHappy tummy time is within reach. This one-time class will give you the strategies you need to know to help get you there. It might also make you hungry for more cool information about how to play with your baby and what to expect at all the different stages and ages\, but that is for another day. Join Wendi McKenna on a journey toward happier tummy time! \nWho: Expectant parents and families with babies newborn to 7 months (registration includes baby and up to 2 caregivers) \nWhat: Parent Education including discussion\, demonstrations\, and hands-on/individualized guidance based on your baby’s unique needs. Topics include: \n\nHappy and developmentally appropriate tummy time\,\nSafe sleep and play environments\,\nPrevention of flat head syndrome\,\nEffect of  “container culture” on baby’s development\, and\nWhat baby gear you really (DO NOT) need!\n\nMove Play Grow is a parent education and baby wellness program with classes created and taught by Wendi McKenna\, DPT\, PCS a pediatric doctor of physical therapy for more than 15 years\, who is passionate about empowering parents for happy babies. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Sweet Sleep (pregnant to 5 months)
DESCRIPTION:Sweet Sleep: Sleep Shaping for Infants\nSince 2010\, San Diego sleep training expert Jen Varela has helped more than 300 sleep-deprived families have sweet sleep. She focuses on the achievement of each family’s sleep goals whether in co-sleeping environments\, room sharing or separate rooms. Jen’s experience ranges from helping families with infants in sleep shaping skills to families with toddlers and/or kindergartners who are transitioning them to their own room for the first time. \nCome learn from Jen about Sleep Shaping your newborn’s sleep habits so you and your baby can get better sleep. Learn what the realistic expectations are around sleep and what your baby is capable of. Find out how to meet your baby’s sleep needs. Discover sleep “shaping” strategies so you never have to sleep train your baby. \nHere’s what other parents say about Jen’s workshops: \n“I am a birth and postpartum doula and a recent new mommy. I’ve had clients work with Jen in previous years and they have had great success with her. My son is 4 months old and fairly good sleeper\, but not a great napper. I recently went to Jen’s sleep shaping workshop for babies up to 5 months old and I’m so happy I went! We co-sleep for half of the night\, which I was worried we’d have to stop doing completely\, but Jen was very supportive of how we choose to sleep with our baby and gave great tips for how to move forward. What I also appreciated was the fact that she provided a lot of science behind babies sleep habits. While I know things won’t change overnight I now feel like I have solid steps I can take to improve my sons sleep. Thanks Jen!” \n\nKiersten – Mother of 4-Month Old Son \n  \n$75 per person\, $90 per couple. \n\n

SUMMARY:Free teen cardiac screening March 25th @ Torrey Pines High School
DESCRIPTION:Eric Paredes was a healthy Steele Canyon High School sophomore athlete who died suddenly and unexpectedly from Sudden Cardiac Arrest/Death (SCA/D) in 2009. His parents\, Hector and Rhina Paredes\, established EP Save A Life Foundation to honor him through their commitment to prevent this tragedy from happening to other families. The EP Save A Life Foundation is committed to preventing SCA in young people through awareness\, education and action. \nEPSALF offers free cardiac screenings to any teen\, ages 12–25. They’ve screened thousands and have identified hundreds with undetected heart abnormalities. \nAll screening events are open to the public—your youth does not have to attend the school to get screened.  Screenings happen from 9 am to 3 pm\, but screenings typically take less than an hour to complete.  If youth bring a fully signed/completed screening packet\, parents do not need to be present at the event.  Screenings include a health history review\, an EKG\, consultation with a cardiologist\, and if indicated\, a limited echocardiogram.  The entire process is painless and non-invasive—no needles or x-ray exposure.  Female technicians screen girls in a separate area from boys. There are also private screening areas as needed.  You are notified of the results within a few weeks for follow-up with us here at Coast Pediatrics. \nPlease notify your Coast doctor if you have had a normal screening here; this is an important part of your child’s medical record.  If the screen is NOT normal\, then we will need to pursue further evaluation. \nSee the website below to register for this complimentary event.
