SUMMARY:Free week-long SCAMP Camp for Children 8-13 with asthma!
DESCRIPTION:The American Lung Association in California Southern California Asthma Management Program (SCAMP) Camp is a weeklong overnight summer camp for kids between the ages of 8-13 living with asthma.  Most summer camps cannot accept children with asthma due to the severity of their condition\, which is why SCAMP Camp is so important.  SCAMP Camp provides children with moderate to severe asthma the unique opportunity to attend summer camp and learn how to better self-manage their asthma. \nThe American Lung Association in California sends up to 200 kids throughout Southern California to SCAMP Camp each year\, where they learn how to better manage their asthma while enjoying traditional camp activities like hiking\, swimming\, arts and crafts\, archery and wall climbing. \nPhysicians\, registered nurses\, respiratory therapists\, and other health professionals provide 24-hour medical care throughout the week-long camp. \n2014 Camp Dates \nSunday\, June 22 – Friday\, June 27\, 2014 \nCamp Location and Transportation \nSCAMP Camp is located in Julian\, California (San Diego County) \nTransportation to and from camp is provided from: \n\nAnaheim – for Los Angeles and Orange Counties\nSan Bernardino – for Riverside and San Bernardino Counties\nSan Diego – for San Diego and Imperial Counties\n\nDeparture and return times vary by location. \nApplication Requirements \n1. Children must be 8-13 years old at the time of camp and told they have asthma by a doctor. \n2. Must complete and submit an application by Friday\, May 9\, 2014. \n3. A $35 application fee is required with the application.  The fee will be refunded if a camper is not accepted. \nDue to limited space\, not every application received will be accepted\, decisions are based on medical conditions and other factors.  Also\, applicants who have never attended camp before\, or have not attended within the past 2 years\, are given priority. \nCost \nThanks to the generosity of supporters\, there is no charge for children to attend SCAMP Camp.

SUMMARY:Free Teen Cardiac Screenings April 27th
DESCRIPTION:Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is not a heart attack. It’s an abnormality in the heart’s electrical system that abruptly stops the heartbeat. It’s fatal in 92 percent of cases if not properly treated within minutes. Among teens in the U.S.\, 1 in 350 have an underlying heart condition that can put them at risk. Thousands of kids die annually from SCA. San Diego alone loses three to five teens every year. These kids could’ve been saved with a simple EKG. \nSave A Life Foundation’s free heart screenings may reveal undetected heart abnormalities that could put teens at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest. The screening includes a health history form completed by a parent\, an electrocardiograms (EKG)\, and if warranted\, an echocardiogram. The EKG reads your heartbeat and the echo captures an image of your heart. The process is completely painless\, non-invasive (no needles or x-ray exposure) and takes less than 30 minutes. \nRegister Now to Screen Your Teen.
