Meet the Doctors
Christine Wood, MD, FAAP, CLE
Christine (“Chris”) grew up in Michigan and went to medical school in her home state at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). She did her pediatric residency, serving as Chief Resident, at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Chris has a special interest in nutrition for children and teens. She is the author of the book How to Get Kids to Eat Great & Love It, and her articles and interviews have been published in Newsweek, Parenting, Parents, Baby Talk, and Redbook, among others. Her website, www.KidsEatGreat.com offers tips from her book. She is a frequent speaker at medical conferences, schools, preschools and community events, on topics such as eating disorders, obesity, school wellness policies and the impact of environmental toxins on health.
She has been in private pediatric practice in North County since 1990. She served as the Co-Chair for the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative from 2009 through 2015. She is the Medical Consultant for a residential eating disorder treatment center in La Jolla and has served as Medical Liaison for the San Diego Chapter International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals. As part of the Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight Steering Committee, she worked on a national level with the American Academy of Pediatrics to shape how pediatricians confront achieving healthy weight in children. San Diego Magazine has recognized Chris as a “Top Doctor” annually in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
She and her husband Kevin, a general contractor/developer, have a son Warren who graduated from Claremont McKenna College in economics and psychology. Warren led his Division 3 tennis team to a national championship in 2014 and went on to win the singles and doubles national championship crowns. He is now working in Los Angeles as a teaching tennis pro for high level junior players and also coaches for his alma mater at Claremont McKenna College. Not surprisingly, his parents are avid tennis players and can answer just about any question on junior tennis! Chris also enjoys Pilates and cooking. The family can often be found at their beach house on the East Cape of Baja Mexico where Chris tries out stand up paddleboarding while Kevin and Warren surf.
She is very excited to be part of the Coast Pediatrics family and unique style of practice. She sees patients of all ages while focusing on her dream of creating a special place for teens. Counseling on all aspects of teen life, like stress, school and nutritional challenges is offered within her practice. She has a particular interest in working with patients with eating disorders, and collaborates with eating disorder treatment teams and programs.
P.S. For those of you wondering what the “CLE” is, Chris is also a Certified Lactation Educator!
